The Secret Sauce to building meaningful Products!

Being first users of our own product is the best litmus test 🧪 for its quality, and can do wonders. The technology today can bring an imagination to reality quicker than ever. I remember a decade ago thinking what if I could have Shazam-like system for my own local files. It’d be so easy to find sounds that I never properly renamed because I was recording and using them on-the-go for projects, but cannot remember which project they are in! A few months ago we release Find Similar in Soundly that does exactly that — sonic search, even for local files. I’ve been lucky to have access to it months before it was made public so I ended up indexing all of my recordings (including phone ones) and it’s the best move I’ve made to my post production setup. Not sure how many of my connections here spend time listening to sound recordings (the way you’d listen to music), but for me it’s a method of improving taste and part of pre-production. This year I’ve reconnected with some fun recordings from the past. I’ve enjoyed listening to the conversation between takes and reliving those moments. What started with the fact that “sound design is a lot about the sound itself than the name of the sound”, has now opened up new possibilities. More creative freedom and another way of thinking.
To keep myself connected with creative audio while I focus on making audio tech products full time, I try to do dummy projects of my own on a regular basis. I eat the food that I’m involved in the making, and I’m loving the taste. 😋🍲 Can you eat the food that you serve in your restaurant?
