I personally love listening to instrumental music more than songs. In a way, it gives me the freedom to imagine the story told by the track based on my own life experiences – I get to choose the words. I'm sure I'm not the only one who prefers this.

The web series, Scam 1992, was released sometime in 2020. It became a hit within a few weeks and was in talks all over the internet. One of the main reason, I think, was its background music composed by Achint Thakkar.

What's the big deal?

You might wonder: "What's so good about this album that a whole blog post had to be dedicated for it?".

• Well, it's the decisions. As a composer, the main agenda at all times is to stay in sync with the story. But another 'giveaway' that we like to play with can only be done subconsciously with music. Hints. Secret messages, which lets the audience know, and not know at the same time.
• "Should we tell them what happens next? Or let them wonder? Maybe a nudge to think the unobvious?"

Scam 1992 makes use of all of the most famous Audio Plugins out there. Omnisphere, Kontakt's patches, and a lot of sounds that most music producers would find familiar. Still, it sounds so fresh. Listen for yourselves.

This album has been playing on loop for weeks now in my Spotify, and I haven't watched the web series yet! The music, however, has revealed a lot. While the mix and 'punch' in some tracks could be expected to be better, it nonetheless achieves its purpose, and that's what matters.

If you're just starting out as a composer, I'd say listen to this album for a few times and you'll find pieces and anecdotes that will teach you without really using any words; or maybe one – Amitabh Bachchan's "huh"!
